Backup MX
Businesses operating their own local mail server need a resilient backup to cover any outages. In the event of losing your Internet connection or a power failure, to name just a few, your emails still need to be delivered somewhere.
A Backup Email Server (also known as a "Backup MX" or "Backup Mail Exchanger") can accept your emails during any downtime.
How does it work?
Incoming email is stored for up to 7 days and is relayed once the connection is re-established.
If your primary server crashes, disconnects, is extremely busy, or needs to be taken offline for routine maintenance, the Backup Email Server acts as a temporary store.
Why do I need it?
In a highly competitive world the last thing you want to do is miss an important email. Without a backup in place, emails will bounce back to the sender as 'undeliverable'. Users often don't understand bounced emails and will simply direct their business elsewhere – to someone with a more reliable IT infrastructure.
If you have an online shop, how will you know you have an order to take care of if the email has bounced, and does your shopping cart handle bounced emails? There are many embarrassing scenarios which can be easily avoided with this small but important service.
A well maintained backup mail service will ensure emails are never missed, and clients will see you as a quality operation. Returned emails are frustrating for all users and can be easily avoided with a Backup Email Server.
How much does it cost?
Whether we host your domain or not, you can still take advantage of this service. You will simply need to ensure that you or your domain admin can add additional MX entries to your DNS records.
This essential service is available at just £20+VAT annually per domain. This will cover all email addresses that are set up under a domain name.
