Microsoft Office 365: explained

It's the dawn of a new era at Microsoft especially with the ushering in of their relatively new CEO Satya Nadella. The way the company operates and does business is changing hugely. This however, has led to some confusion amongst users. So we'll explain Microsoft Office 365; how it's changed and how it might affect you. The first big change is that Office has now moved from a one-off licence purchase to an Office 365 subscription. You can learn more about the different prices and packages by clicking this link. You can still buy Microsoft Office as a standalone one time purchase however, these are becoming more and more limited in supply therefore it is getting more expensive.

What do I get with Office 365?

Of course this will vary depending on which package is right for you. However what you get with a subscription is a whole lot more. With Office 365, you get the latest version of Microsoft Office, and you can install it on up to five devices. Across mobile phones, tablets and PCs. So if you have an iPad, an Android phone, a Windows laptop and an OSX-based Mac you can have the latest version of Office on all of these platforms. This would mean you would never have to pay to upgrade to the latest version of Office again, which, of course will save you money in the long term. With Office 365, you also get enterprise-class email powered by the Microsoft Cloud, with Skype for Business included, making it easy for teams to communicate and collaborate.

What about Cloud storage?

With Microsoft Office 365, 1TB (about 1000GB) of Cloud storage is included. This is integrated into Microsoft office and gives you a lot of space to store all your documents and files. It means you can access all your documents, spreadsheets and presentations from any device with an internet connection and a web browser.

So where are my emails stored?

With Microsoft Office 365, emails are stored safely and securely in the Microsoft Cloud, easily accessible anytime from the web browser, or through Outlook on mobile, PC, Mac and iPhone/iPad.
