Mobile is becoming more and more important to the web than ever before. In 2014, according to Ofcom, 61% of UK adults owned a smartphone.
Google is tweaking its search rankings so that mobile-friendly, responsive websites are put ahead of websites that are not mobile-friendly and responsive. The reason for Google putting mobile-friendly websites first is to ensure that users have the best possible experience of Google search. Recently Google revealed that search on mobile devices has surpassed the number of desktop searches.
Beyond Google, websites like Facebook and Twitter are one of the biggest traffic drivers to websites outside of search. And, did you know that 30% of Facebook users use the platform exclusively on mobile?
What all this means, is that, these days, having a website that does not work on mobile devices is essentially like turning customers away. It's important to know that a website that does not work properly on mobile devices will see a bounce rate of between 70% and 90%. So a visitor will land on your website and if it's not mobile-friendly, will just leave without opening any other page.
We all know that your website is like your storefront and where your potential new customers go to find out about your company, products and services. So if your website doesn't work on mobile devices you are more than likely putting possible customers off from the first.
