The day Windows XP dies is the day Windows 8.1 gets its biggest update yet. The multiple changes coming to Windows 8.1 update 1 will make it more user-friendly yet for people on non-touch computers.

Some of the changes include the resurrection of the start menu, but with a twist. The start menu now features pinable live tiles, bringing a touch of Microsoft’s Modern UI to the classic start menu. A hybrid of the Modern UI and the classic start menu is sure to make many users happier with Windows 8.
Other changes include being able to use the Windows 8 Modern UI apps in the classic desktop Windows mode as well as bringing context menus to the Modern UI part of Windows 8 bringing more familiarity to users. Also, the task bar will appear when using Modern UI apps allowing users to easily switch between classic programmes and Windows 8 Modern UI apps.
In addition, a power button will appear on the Modern UI part of Windows 8 making it faster and easier for users to reach the shutdown options. Boot to desktop mode is also coming, which means that when users switch on their PC they’ll be greeted by the familiar desktop they were used to before Windows 8. This option though is only available on desktop computers and not tablet devices.
Windows 8.1 update 1 can now be installed on hardware with less RAM, with the new minimum requirements being 1GB of RAM verses the old 2GB of RAM minimum as a required amount.
All these changed should start making Windows 8.1 a better experience for users on non-touch enabled computers and addresses much of the issues users had raised about Windows 8.
So are you now planning on upgrading to Windows 8.1 update 1? Microsoft has certainly addressed many of the issues users had with Windows 8, those which held many back on upgrading their systems.
