Not using social media for your business has been likened to performing on stage and standing behind the curtain for most of your act. The majority of the audience have no sight of you and are definitely not going to make any effort to change seats.

If you’re not using social media for your business, you’re hiding in the wings

Why would you purposely limit your audience in this way? The numbers alone, of willing spectators, make staying hidden a bad decision. Globally, there are around 3 billion active users on social media. Over 60% of Instagram users say they discover new products on Intagram, and 80% of Instagrammers follow at least one business. And that’s just Intagram!

So why aren’t you using social media for your business? Maybe you are an avid networker and consider that all your referrals come from word of mouth. Maybe you have enough customers to be going on with and this is all you can cope with. Or maybe you just haven’t got the time to begin to learn a whole set of new stuff.

Networking is best for me

Can you network in person with 3 billion people? Of course not, nor would you want to. But on social media you can reach far more people than you ever could networking in person. More importantly, the people you network with expect to see you on social media too, so you’re widening your pool and strengthening your presence into the bargain. Don’t stop networking. But get on social media too.

I have enough customers already

Building engagement on social media is good for strengthening your brand and the engagement you might need for a rainy day. What if those customer figures you rely on suddenly take a steep decline? If you’ve already built a following on Instagram there are ways of leveraging that following to generate the engagement and ultimately extra business you might need in an uncertain future.

I’m too busy to learn social media

An hour with a social media manager and you’ll understand the basics, and how social media can benefit your business. They’ll advise you on the right channels, whether that’s Instagram, Facebook or one or more of the many others. A social media manager will take care of all the regular posts you need to be effectively using social media. You can go from zero to full throttle in very little time at all.

You’ll see the results too. Regular posting across your relevant channels with interesting and helpful information for your customers and prospective customers will strengthen your brand and increase your market reach.

You don’t need to worry about what to post or how to post. Your social media manager will have regular briefings with you and gather all the content they need. The cost can vary depending on the level of service but will be outweighed by the added bottom line you will gain from reaching new audiences and increasing your flow of customers.
